5 Tips To Improve Your Google AdSense Click Through Rate (CTR)

When you are an AdSense publisher you know that the more clicks you get the better. Therefore we are constantly trying to improve our AdSense click through rate by optimizing our Ad placements. When you see your AdSense CTR dropping or simply not increasing along with your impressions then its time to experiment and test everything.
Here are a few things to try when trying to improve your AdSense CTR.

Make your Google AdSense ads a prominent feature

If you want to improve your AdSense click through rate you should not have too many other options for people to click on. For example when they visit a post the AdSense advertising should be an option for them to click through to. If you do have any other links around the post or in the post they should be leading to another article on your website with more AdSense on it.

Make your AdSense look like part of your content

If you have links on your website that are blue then blue text ads for AdSense are a good idea because it will look like part of your content. Do not make the ads look ugly. They need to blend in and loo like a menu or extra options to click on.

Write killer content to improve your AdSense click through rate

Can Google AdSense pinpoint what your content is about? If you are getting ads that did not relate to your articles then this would be your fault. You need to make sure that each article is clearly about one subject and is search engine optimized to help Google decide what adds to put there. You can use Google AdSense section targeting if you feel that Google is not giving you the right ads.

Experiment with ad positions

You cannot just play sure ads on your website and expect them to get a good click through rate. You need to optimize them in every way. Just because an ad position works for one website does not mean that it will work for you, therefore you need to do some experimenting.

Do some research on keywords

What keywords are bringing your website visitors to your website? If they are finding your website by typing in a keyword that has a low CPC then this is not good for your earnings or your click through rate. Google AdSense wants targeted visitors to click on targeted ads. For example if someone searched for "free desktop wallpaper" and found a computer website with virus program adds they would be less likely to convert than a person that had searched for "virus software".
The best way to find which keywords people are using to get to your website, is to go to Google Webmaster tools.

5 Tricks Professional Affiliates Recommend

Yes, it's true that there is money to be made in this industry. You see, affiliate marketing is constantly evolving and those that pursue affiliate sales with persistence, creativity, vigor and skill are almost guaranteed to make money. Let's consider this impressive case study. In 1994, marketers started employed a Cost Per Click platform for an adult site. By 2006, it was a booming industry with generated sales and commissions of $6.5 billion. The reason for its quick meteoric climb is the fact that there was a need for this type of adult entertainment, people were willing to purchase these memberships and affiliates knew how to market to this audience.
With this in mind, if affiliate marketing sounds like a career you are interested in, keep reading. Here are some of the best tricks used by the successful affiliate marketers:

Have Solid Accounting Software

While most affiliate programs have an in-house accounting system, it helps to think of your affiliate business as a full-fledged business. This means having a solid business plan, keeping track of your earnings, and comparing it to the amounts given to you by the company you are marketing.
Once your earnings start piling up, it can get a bit confusing to keep track of how much you should get paid without additional tracking software. With this in mind, it is recommended that you purchase an independent accounting software program. Also, why waste your time pouring over records when accounting software can do the same thing in less than half the time - and possibly be more accurate?

Find a Mentor

It is possible that you can learn internet marketing on your own but this is extremely difficult to do. In fact, there are many scammers out there - willing to accept your marketing services without paying you the commissions. When you hire a mentor you can trust, you get the edge that's vital to your success and will be able to learn the ins and outs of marketing online. In addition, you can get firsthand help in avoiding scammers who prey on newbies.

Put up Your Own Website

Affiliate marketing is not just about marketing someone else' product; it's about creating a brandable web presence. The best way to do this is with your very own website. When you build your own site, you build your own brand. With your own brand, you expand your options by a wide, wide margin. For instance, let's say you market a very popular herbal supplement through your site. You create a website specifically for this purpose. Well, let's say the supplement manufacturer goes out of business. Well, when you have your own site, you can redirect this traffic to another affiliate partner and not miss out on these sales. On the other hand, if you directed all your traffic to the initial affiliate partner, you'd be out of luck!

Develop Your Niche But Don't Be Afraid to Expand It

"All the world's your stage... " Keep this in mind and you will come to realize that while you should have your niche, you shouldn't be afraid to expand it by adding additional products to your marketing arsenal. After all, you know your target. You know what they need and what they want. By being creative with your offerings, you increase your profit potential and still meet their diverse needs.

Work Like a Professional, Think Like a Professional

The main reason many beginners in affiliate marketing drop out is because they don't treat it professionally. They only work when they feel like it and they hardly ever take it as seriously. However, those that are the most successful, work at their business. They are self disciplined and often work harder than they would in a corporate setting. They see themselves as professionals!

In conclusion, being a professional affiliate is possible and so is making six figures or even millions. However, to reach your profit goals you must: have solid accounting software, find a mentor, develop your nice, and work and think like a professional. Once you do this, you'll be more likely to win the affiliate marketing game.

Simple Ways To Improve Your Bounce Rate

Improving bounce rate can dramatically improve the overall performance of a site.

From building a stronger community to boosting CTR, bounce can be the difference between the success or failure of your campaign.

So what can we do to improve our sites bounce rate? Well, there are hundreds, if not infinite amount of ways to improve bounce rates, the only limit is our time and imagination. But, to save a bit of time and effort here are 10 tried and tested ways of improving your bounce rate.

Add a Search Box

If users cant find what they are looking for on the page they're on they will often turn towards the search box to hunt down the info they need.

Adding a search box to your site is a must. Having a search box basically allows your audience to tailor your site to suit there needs and head directly to what they want.

Display Related Posts.

I've touched on this in a previous post. Displaying related content on our pages is a great way to encourage people to click around. One of the easiest ways of doing this is to add a related posts widget/plugin to the end of your posts. For more on improving bounce with related posts click here.

Split Writing Into Smaller Parts

Reading through line after line of text with no paragraphs, heading or basic formatting is just plain boring and many people wont have the patients to see it through to the end, so they leave (hey! don't leave lol).

Try to create small chunks of info that makes your visitors want to read the next chunk and so on. Getting people interested in your writing will definitely keep them on site.

Page Load Time

Unless the user is a big fan, they are not going to stick around to wait for a slow ass site to load. If our sites are taking longer than 10 seconds to load, we need to take steps to reduce the loading time.

Cut out unnecessary images, heavy scripts and generally cut objects from your page that is not
needed. Do you really need that Gangnam Style GIF jiggling in the sidebar?

Page Design

The design or the look of a site plays a big part on the bounce rate. If visitors don't like what they see when they land on a page they will not stick around to look through the other pages, regardless of how good the content is. Take a look at some of the top sites out there. What can we take from their design to improve our own sites?

Display popular posts

Showing popular posts is similar to showing related post. But instead of of information related to a post, you are showing what other visitors find interesting. For some it may indicate that its worth reading. The fact that a page is 'popular', is enough to make some people want to read it.

Just like related posts, there are plenty of widgets and plugins to help you out.

Open external links in a new window

External links are a bit of a touchy subject. On one hand you want to offer your visitors relevant and useful information which at times means sending them to outside content, and in the other you want your visitors to stay on your site. Right?

Opening external links in a new window allows us to take advantage of both sides. Our visitors can view outside content but at the same time stay on our pages.

I hope you find this useful. If you have any questions just leave a comment. Thanks for reading

5 Reasons Why Affiliate Campaigns Fail

Affiliate marketing is one of the most common and most popular ways of making money online and thousands of people are making great profits each and every day. But, the sad truth is that the percentage of people who actually make a nice living from affiliate marketing is quite small and the amount that fail is huge. That's not to say that achieving a decent income is impossible, because its definitely possible. Sometimes all it takes is a few little tweaks to breathe some life back into a dying campaign, but first you need to identify the problems. Here are 5 reasons why affiliate campaigns fail...

Lack Of Planning

This is where most fail from the start. Planning is key to the success of any campaign. Without a plan things can quickly go down hill when unexpected problems arise. Having clear goals and a time frame will get a campaign up and running quickly and with minimal hiccups.

Poor Quality Advertising Material

When looking at some of the material people use to advertise affiliate products, all that goes through my head is SPAM, SCAM, SHAM. Poor quality design and bad sales copy is a real turn off to a potential buyer, especially when they've seen the same thing copied and pasted 100 times around the net on dodgy looking domains. First impressions count, so make it the best you can.

Bad Product Choice

Choosing the right product is vital. Many people go ahead and try to promote anything and everything they can get their hands on without even thinking. Shoving low quality products in peoples faces and expecting them to buy it isn't gonna make anyone money. You need to know your target audience and promote products that suit their needs. Rule of thumb, if you wont buy it for yourself then don't sell it to your customers.

Not Enough Time

Time is something we could all do with a little more of, and it can be hard to create spare time in our hectic lives. Coming home from work then starting your next shift at your computer isn't the most pleasant experience. Planning and executing a successful campaign is very time consuming and initially many don't think about how they will make the time around there other obligations. Creating a schedule or setting aside a few hrs a day can make all the difference, but if you haven't got enough time, you haven't got enough time.

Lack of patience

One of the biggest campaign killers is lack of patience. Obtaining a payout within days is near to impossible unless you're part of a large network or you have a huge mailing list, and many quit before they've started because they cant see the earnings accumulating. It can take several months before you see even a small return on your efforts but you have to stick at it or you're just wasting time.

This post wasn't written to put anyone off affiliate marketing but instead highlight a few details that some might not take into consideration. Have a look at your own campaign, are any of these points relevant to you?

Lower Your Blogs Bounce Rate With Related Posts

As we know, without traffic a web site is virtually useless so we take huge steps to increase our visitor counts. But a lot of us don't take into consideration how active these visitors are on site, after all, there is no point having lots of hits if know ones reading your stuff, right?

When looking at how visitors interact with your site the bounce rate becomes a very useful bit of info, and by knowing the facts you can work towards improving your stats. CTR a little low? You might want to check your bounce rate.

What is Bounce Rate?

Bounce rate, put simply, is the percentage of bounced visits to your site. They jump in, they bounce out.
This is how Google describes bounced visits ...
  • A user clicks on a link deep into your site sent by a friend, reads the information on the page, and closes the browser.
  • A user comes to your home page, looks around for a minute or two, and immediately leaves.
  • A user comes directly to a reference page on your site from a web search, leaves the page available in the browser while completing other tasks in other browser windows and the session times out.
A high bounce rate means people visit your page and leave almost straight away, a low bounce rate shows that your visitors are actually reading, participating and clicking around your site.
So you can see why it could be important to know this stat.

Improve Bounce Rate with related posts

To improve bounce rate we need to give users a reason to continue digging around our site and one of the easiest ways to do this is to place a related posts/content widget below your posts.

Related posts/content widgets usually display the title and sometimes a short summary of maybe 4 or 5 posts. Using thumbnails is great way of catching peoples attention. Check out the example image below...

related posts widget

By offering further information related to the content of the page or even something that looks interesting to read, you are not only supplying readers with a wealth of information you are keeping them engaged and more importantly on site.

Top related post widgets.

If you are interested in improving your bounce rate with related posts, here are a few third party related posts widgets you might want to check out...

LinkWithin

Link within is the related post widget I use here on VirtuaCash (may change soon). It is very simple to install on most popular platforms and you don't even have to sign up to use it.

NRelate

NRelate is very similar to linkwithin. You don't need to sign up to use it, although signing up gives you more advanced options. NRelate also allows you to make some money from your links.

Outbrain

Out brain is a popular widget that's great for customising using css. It also offers you the chance to make some money from your links, like NRelate.

10 Useful Tips for new Domain Name Sellers

Selling domains can be a tricky business when first starting out although if you get it right, the work involved becomes less and the profits get bigger. Domain names are relatively cheap, so domain selling is accessible to a wide range of people with varying budgets.

Generally, .com's and highly creative domains with common keywords fetch the higher prices, although good .co.uk, .org, .net domains can sell well too.

If you are a new domain seller, then these 10 tips for new domain sellers should help you on your way.

Try to get a dot com

If you purchase less popular extension (.net, .org, .biz, .info) your visitors may inadvertently type in the .com version and potentially end up going to a competitor’s site. You don’t want to go for a .net, .org, .biz, .info or other extension unless you can get the .com. Someone else got the .com? Then get creative and find a .com that will work for your project , then buy up the .net, .org, .biz, .info. This can prevent others from picking up your traffic.

Own as many versions as possible

Be open to owning as many versions of your main domain as possible. In the future you can then use various domains for special promotions or for tracking purposes. Plus you then keep these domains out of the hands of your competitors.
Try to own the .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info of your desired domain.

Don't use registered or trademarked words

Be sure you don't use registered or trademarked words and phrases that you don't own. Even misspelled versions, you don't want to be hearing from the trademark holder’s legal department. Its not worth the time and trouble.

Try to make your Domains as short as possible

The longer the domain name, the more room for typos. Also, the longer your e-mail address. But don't make domains that are 3 letters long, it has to be at least a little bit descriptive or creative.

Register your domain for as long as possible

Register your domain for at least 2 yrs. Search Engines are now looking at domain registration length as part of the criteria in ranking sites. Aged domains can be much more valuable.

Stay away from easily misspelled words

If you have to use a word that is misspelled all the time, register the misspelled version as well and point it to your site. Try not to invent words that do not have mass appeal unless they are memorable, creative and easy to spell. You don't want to have your visitors guessing what your domain means.

Set domains to Auto Renew

When you register your domain names, set them to “auto-renew” so you don’t have to worry about losing your domains down the road if you miss the reminder e-mails.

Branding

At times your company name is not as catchy or as memorable as a name that can describe what you do in a unique way. If your company or name does not carry any branding weight, look for something more creative.

Try not to use hyphenated domain names

If the .com version of your desired name is not available without hyphens, try to find another domain name. There is no point owning the dashed version if you can't own the non-dashed version. People usually type the entire .com  address without the dash  and will potentially land on a competitors site. But, there are hyphenated domains out there that do just as well as non-hyphenated.

Don't buy every domain that pops into your head

Its true, the more domains you have the better chance of selling one you have. But, at least research your choice a little bit. Have valid reasons for purchasing your domains or you could end up with a load of domains you cant shift. Its a good idea to visualise what your domain would be used for and maybe put together a mock site.

Are there other ways to make money from unsued Domains?

Try Domain Parking. If selling isn't your thing, you can still make money from unused or unwanted domains through domain parking.

10 Tips For Survey Takers

Taking surveys has been a popular way of making money on an off line for a long, long time now and more and more survey sites have popped up over the years. Many people read posts about making money online with surveys and how easy it is and jump right in without any idea about how survey sites work, how much they will earn, or the time it takes to accumulate earnings, only to be disappointed.

If you approach survey taking in the right way you can earn a nice bit of cash, but you will NOT get rich or even make a modest living from them so don't get ahead of yourself.

Here are ten tips to help you maximise your survey taking efforts and hopefully generate more cash for your pocket...

Set a goal

By this I mean, what do you need the extra cash for. Doing this will allow you to be realistic about how much you will earn, and give you something to aim for so you don't just give up like most. For example, you could be saving for a new games console or for this years Christmas presents.

Do your research

There are lots of survey companies out there and not all of them are legit. It pays to do a little research on the company before signing up as you could end up spending a lot of time and effort on a scam or a bad deal.

Set up a dedicated email account

You don't want to miss surveys because they are buried in other personal mail so setting up an account solely for surveys is a must. Remember to store your login details so you don't forget them.

Check your junk folder

Believe it or not, many people miss out on paying surveys because they have not bothered to check there junk folder. If your surveys are going to your junk folder, make sure you redirect them to your inbox.

Sign up with multiple survey sites

If you want to get the most out of survey taking you need to sign up to as many sites as possible as surveys can be sent very infrequently. Some sites only send out 1 survey per month. You know what they say, don't put all your eggs in one basket.
9 Legitimate Paid Survey Sites Worth Joining

Be conservative with the truth

Most survey sites will send you surveys based on your profile e.g. your job, hobbies, shopping habits etc so it can be pay to be a little cheeky and not be entirely truthful, after all they only have your word for it ; )

Check email account every day

Another way people loose earnings from survey sites is that they don't check their emails regularly. Most surveys will have a end date so it makes sense to check your email once a day to make sure you don't get to it too late and miss out.

Take as many surveys as you can

Taking surveys can be a long a boring process with some surveys lasting up to an hour but don't be put off  and only do a few. You need to complete as many as you can because you will not qualify for payment on all surveys, this can be based on your profile and other factors like the amount of people who have already completed the survey.

If they have a referral program, use it

If the sites you join have referral programs, use them. You could end up making more money from referring people than you do taking surveys. There is nothing to lose.

Relax

Don't stress yourself too much about surveys, they will not make you rich and it can take some time to make some cash, so have fun with it.

Remember, it takes a long time to make a decent amount of cash from surveys so stick at it.

Monetising Outbound Links With Adf.ly

Outbound links are links that direct/send your visitors away from your page or site, this can be both a good and a bad thing. There is different options on whether or not to link out. Some think that you leak and lose PR by linking to others and they tend not to link out, others (like me) think that linking out helps to provide more information to users and also direct visitors to useful content. Others, don't really think about it or care.

One thing I know for sure is that outbound links can be little gems when it comes to making money online from your site.

Monetising outbound Links with Adf.ly

To monetise our links we are going to be using Adf.ly, a link shortening service that pays.

Adf.ly have a few useful little ad scripts, that automatically convert links to paid links.
They mainly direct visitors through 2 types of ads, Interstitial or Framed Banner so it would be a good idea to test out these types of links before proceeding. You can sign up to Adf.ly for free here

Full page script with exclusions

The script we need is the Adf.ly full page script. It is used to automatically change all site links to paid links. We don't want this, we want just our outbound links, not site links to be monetized but that's cool, we can just configure it. The full page script allows you to exclude or include certain URLs, domains or pages by simply adding them to the list.
Adf.ly provide instructions on their site, and it is very simple to use so please sign up and check them out. Don't worry, its free and only takes a couple of minutes.

What to exclude or include

Personally I don't think its a great idea to be monetising your internal links with Adf.ly, so add your site domain/URL to the exclusion script, this way only links to other sites will be monetised. Its also a good idea to exclude other URLs that you don't want an ad to show on depending on needs.

What type of ads should be used?

This depends on what type of content you offer and how annoying you want to be to your visitors. Using framed banner ads is less intrusive and allows visitors to view content directly where as interstitial makes visitors have to wait and skip an ad before seeing the content which can be very annoying.
I would say use framed ads as they are less annoying, but they pay much much less so have a think about it. Also, check out this post...

Adf.ly: Make Money with Intermission and Framed Ads

Sorry this isn't a step by step guide, but these scrpits are so simple that if you took 2 mins to check them out they wouldn't need any explaining.
To find out more about these scripts and to start monetising outbound links visit Adf.ly, its free.

Improve Your Google AdSense Ad Relevancy with Section Targeting

Adsense Section Targeting
There is a little known method to increase the relevancy of AdSense's ads on your pages without actually modifying your content visually. It forces AdSense to focus on or ignore certain sections of content. This is referred to as "section targeting".

What is Section Targeting?

Section targeting lets you highlight parts of your page or content that you want Adsense to emphasise or down play. Through handing Google AdSense your suggestions using targeting, you are assisting Google AdSense to improving the relevancy of your ads and as a result boost your ads CTR . Although it is quite easy to setup, I suggest that only people with at least some basic HTML knowledge should try to implement section targeting.

How do I use Section Targeting

To start using section targeting, you will need to add some HTML comment tags to your code. With these tags you can state the beginning and end of the sections you want to emphasise or de-emphasise.

The HTML you need to emphasise a section look like this:

<!– google_ad_section_start –>

<!– google_ad_section_end –>

You can also designate sections you'd like to have ignored by adding a (weight=ignore) to the starting tag like this:

<!– google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) –>

With the tags added, your final HTML code should look something like:

<html>
   <head><title>Section targeting</title></head>
   <body>

      Irrelevant text here

<!– google_ad_section_start –>

This is the most important content of your webpage. You prefer Ads being shown related to this content.

<!– google_ad_section_end –>

Other irrelevant or low-paying keyword-content here

   </body>
</html>

This is not a Quick Fix

You can use section targeting to make suggestions about as many sections of a page as you like. However, please be aware that Google AdSense can't guarantee results, and that it may take up to 2 weeks before Google's crawlers take any changes you've made to your site into account.

To use this feature properly, you need to include a lot  of content in the section targeting tags. Using insufficient content can result in less relevant ads or Public Service Ads. Also, keep in mind that this feature should only be used to highlight significant sections of your site's relevant content.

It's against Google AdSense's policies to manipulate the ad targeting to result in ads that are not relevant to the content of your pages.

Conclusion

Use section targeting wisely. Do not wrap a single sentence or even a medium-sized paragraph in section targeting tags.

One example that I've tested is ignoring menus. NOTE that Google AdSense ignoring your menus does NOT mean Google's Crawler will so no worries there. I had a menu section with links to articles on a huge variety of topics. The topics were totally unrelated to the page / article. I wanted ads to be relevant to the article, so wrapped my menu in ignore tags and wrapped my article in ad_section targeting tags. After a few weeks, my Google AdSense ads did become much more relevant and I didn't see the same level of unrelated ads that where being shown because of the unrelated topics in the menu.

However, if you can meet these requirements, creators and publishers have been known to make huge amounts of money online from their YouTube videos.

YouTube Partner Program

Becoming a Youtube Partner is definitely one of the best ways of making money online from your videos. Partners share revenue that comes from In-Video overlay ads and rentals. Partners may also have the chance to take part in branded entertainment opportunities which can aslo help you earn money online.

Partners have the advantage of very high quality video, branded channel options, and Insight analytics to help learn about your audience and increase your earnings online. Some people even get featured on YouTubes homepage, creating even more views and more opportunities to make money online.

If you upload original and interesting content and get thousands of views regularly, then apply to become a partner. You could turn your videos into a decent online income.

YouTube Individual Video Partnerships

Youtube launched the YouTube Partnership Program with power users in mind. Power users are users that upload new content regularly and consistently get lots of hits. But, they broadened the YouTube partnership opportunities to include popular videos with the IVP (Individual Video Partnership program).

YouTube reaches out to creators with videos that accumulate a lot of views , they even invite creators to create a YouTube partnership and share revenue. This is great for Uploaders that don’t upload content regularly enough for the Partnership Program to make money on YouTube.

You can join the program here: http://www.youtube.com/yt/creators/partner.html

Like most things, YouTube and the YouTube Partnership Program are subject to change, if you find that they have changed pleased let me know so I can update this post.

11 Easy to use SEO Tips for Simple Optimisation

11 Simple SEO Tips
If you are looking for quick and easy to use SEO tips that you can implement right away with not too much effort, your in the right place.

These tips are not listed in order of importance, they are all definitely things to think about whilst creating pages.

These easy SEO practises are sometimes overlooked by even the best marketers and SEO gurus, but they can be very beneficial in the short and the long term and potentially make you more money online. You don't have to use all of the tips listed here but at least think about a few of them when creating your next project.

Beginning of Title

You should try to position your strongest keywords at the start of the title. Sometimes search engines can give the  first few words of a title more emphasis, the order you place your keywords can make a real difference.

Length of Title

Try to keep page titles short but descriptive, around 65 Characters is a good length. If your titles are to long they will be truncated by search engines, so its best to keep them short if possible.

Don't think about Page Rank too much.

It takes time to build decent page rank, so concentrate on creating as much quality content as possible, let your site age and soon your page rank will grow. Even sites with low pr can out rank pages with high pr.

Backlinks, quality not quantity.

Its always better to obtain good quality backlinks to your site over a long period of time than obtain a whole bunch of low quality links in a short space of time. The speed at which you get backlinks can affect rankings, so take it easy. Bad backlinks can have a long term affect on your sites rankings.

Keyword Stuffing

We need keywords in our pages, but don't over do it. Stuffing excessive amounts of keywords in your pages will have a negative effect. you want to make your content look natural, search engines love it.

Use multiple video hosting sites

Videos that pop up in Google search results aren't just from Youtube.
Make sure you upload your videos to various video hosting sites to maximise your chances. Vimeo is a good alternative choice.

Search Engine Friendly Site Navigation

Using Flash for navigation on your website can be bad news if you aren’t aware of how to make Flash objects accessible and web-crawler-friendly. Search engines have a really tough time crawling a website that uses Flash.

Unique Meta Data

Giving your pages unique meta descriptions will prevent duplicate data in search engines.
Every page should have its own set of meta data; it is just one of the things that helps search engines get a better grasp of how the structure of the website is constructed.

Image alt tags

This is something I need to think more about myself but image alt tags allow you give your images a description. Why do this? One reason to use image alt tags it so that if your images don't load for any reason the alt tag or description will be displayed instead. Your pictures will also do better in image searches.

Anchor text

If you can try to use keywords as anchor text for your links, and try to keep the text around links as descriptive and relevant as possible.

Number of links

Try to keep the number of links on any one page low as possible. I know this can be very difficult sometimes but over 100 is too many.

How to Choose a Good Ad Network that suits your needs

Choosing a good Ad Network
This is a basic check list for any publisher to find an ad network that is suitable and profitable for your website.

Niche vs. Generic

If your blog and website has a strong focus in a particular field and your visitors generally share the same interests, then a Vertical ad network is what you should look for. This type of ad network serves a signature niche and targets a relevant and specific demographic, connecting advertisers and publishers that share the same interests or belong to the same industry. This is a very effective platform to reach the right target audience. Some examples include The Deck, Federated Media.

Horizontal ad network is the kind of network that dwells in all categories. Its inventory is extensive and generic. Horizontals offer a massive reach for advertisers and publishers. Some examples include ValueClick, AOL Advertising.

Payment and Rates

One important factor when joining an ad network is to know how you will be paid. How effective are they selling your ad space, at what rate, and how much of that will actually reach you?

These are the 3 most common ways your ad displays will be compensated:

1. CPM

'Cost per Thousand Impressions' advertising is a network that rewards publishers for every 1000 impressions, or ad views. This is a great choice for websites and blogs with high traffic since the large number of visitors equals more revenue. This also allows you to predict your advertising revenue monthly based on your website traffic.

The downside of CPM networks is that they can be difficult to join with minimum impression requirement, or they offer CPMs that are too low to turn into a significant source of advertising revenue. For publishers, CPM is one of the best ways to monetize because the greater your site traffic is, the more revenue you can earn. Some CPM networks include CasaleMedia, TribalFusion, ValueClick.

2. CPA

'Cost per Action (Acquisition)' programs reward publishers only when visitors purchase the product or service from the advertiser after visiting your website. These advertisements award high payouts. However, your earnings depend entirely on the visitors' purchase and the effectiveness of the ad copy. If they do not buy any product, you do not earn any revenue.

Typically, CPA is more effective if the website has high traffic and a particular focus that compliments with the products being advertised. For example, if your site is about movie reviews, a ticket-seller program will perform a lot better than an art-and-craft website.

If the theme of your website does not compliment the ads, it will be hard to earn from the CPA model. Some networks include CommissionJunction, LinkShare.

3. CPC

'Cost per Click' advertisement is easier to monetize than the CPA model since it rewards publishers for each click. The upside is that CPC has the potential to turn small levels of traffic into revenue, and these ad blocks are easy to set up.

The downside is that revenue can be inconsistent since it depends on the customers' choice and interest to click. Ad placement location, niche, and visual appeal are some of the factors that can enhance the effectiveness of CPC ads. Examples include Google AdSense, Yahoo for Publisher.

Business model of ad network

All these CPC, CPA, CPM rates do not mean you earn 100% of the money. Ad networks get a significant commission from your earnings and have control over your paid inventory. If the network can only accommodate 50% of your total inventory, you would need to fill 50% of it with something else or risk losing money to the default public-service ads served by the network.

The effective CPM is a good way to measure your actual earning. For example: Your ad network is selling £10 CPMs and you have 10,000 page views, each page has one ad. Your potential revenue is £100. Let's assume that they are selling half of the inventory on your site, meaning 5,000 of your pages have ads and the rest do not.

That means maximum revenue is £50. Assuming there's a 5% (£22.5) admin fee for the ad network, total revenue is down to £47.5. If the revenue split is 50/50, your ad network keeps £23.75 and you get £23.75. Thus, your net effective CPM is £2.37, or £2.37 for every 1000 impressions.

Reliability and Credibility

Ad network commissions can be significant, that is why it is important that you select one carefully. As with all business, you only want to partner with credible companies.

You should take into consideration the company history by asking questions such as how long they have been in the business, how often they pay, or if they have a history of withholding payment. More research at the beginning will save you time and effort in the long run.

Control over your ads

You only want ads that can generate revenue and attract visitors. If you have a specific demographic that will not tolerate certain images and topics, then you should take into consider how much control you have over the ads. Is it possible to turn off undesirable ads such as gambling services, adult services, or ads from your competitors?

Integration with your ad server

After you have narrowed down the number of prospective ad networks, you should also consider their compatibility with your ad server. Some ad servers will not accept third-party networks or limit the number or type of ad networks to serve.

How to submit a Full XML Sitemap for Blogger

Full XML Sitemap for Blogger
Getting your site indexed with Google is key to the success of every site. Googles index is the most famous and well used search index on the Internet, so it makes sense to focus on them as a primary source of traffic.

Most sites will eventually be indexed if they are live long enough, but who knows how long it could take for Google to crawl your site and index you?

The great thing is Google and most major search engines offer us a way to 'guide' them to and around our sites so they can index us quickly and efficiently. These little gems are called Sitemaps.

How to Submit a Full XML Sitemap for blogger.

Submitting a Sitemap of your blogger blog to Google and other search engines is a fairly simple process. Nearly every blog nowadays have an RSS/Atom feed and most blogging platforms provide this by default, like Blogger. Your Sitemap is basically your RSS/Atom feed displayed as an XML Document.

The default URL for blogger Feeds look something like this...

http://YOURBLOG.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default or http://YOURBLOG.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/full

You can submit this Feed as your Sitemap to help google find your pages, but there is a big problem with using the default feed.

It only displays 25 of your latest blog posts. What if you have 500 posts? You want all of them indexed right? Instead of submitting the above Feed you want to submit a Full Sitemap.
A full feed URL looks like this...

http://YOURBLOG.blogspot.com/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500

The part in red means it will display posts from post 1, and the part in green means it will display a max of 500 post. So, you can see with this sitemap you will be able to submit up to 500 pages of your site.

Visit the link below to find out exactly how to add your Sitemaps to Google.
http://support.google.com/sites/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=100283

What if I have more than 500 pages?

Simply submit a second Sitemap with a slight difference. Change the start point (the red part) to 501 like this...

http://YOURBLOG.blogspot.com/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=501&max-results=500

With the two site maps you will be able to submit page 1 to 500 and page 501 to 1000.
If you want to add more pages just change the start value e.g 1001, 1501, 2001 etc.

Hope this helps
