When AdSense Goes AWOL

When AdSense Goes AWOL. No matter how hard you work to optimize your page, there are going to be times when Google just can’t figure out which AdSense ad to deliver, so it defaults to delivering a PSA (Public Service Ad) instead.

When adsense goes AWOLNow I don’t have any problem with charities, but I give to the ones that I choose to give to. Since I don’t have a non-profit license of my own, the goal of my web site is to make money online and I depend on Google AdSense revenues to help pay my bills. Someday I want it to fund my retirement as well, so I can’t afford to have non-revenue PSAs showing up on my site.

The good news is the Google understands the human’s basic greedy nature, so it provides us with an alternative to donating our precious web real estate to charitable organizations. That alternative is known as AdSense Alternate Ads.

As strange as it seems, this feature allows you to let Google competitors into your site. Don’t worry, Google is allowing it with their eyes wide open. They even tell you how to set up the alternate ad code to work on your site and they let you do it right in your AdSense control panel.
Once you add the code to your site, Google will pull ads from whatever service you defined rather than serve a PSA. Google will do that even if those ads are coming from Yahoo, or Overture, or your grandmother’s attic.

This goes a long way towards ensuring that you never lose an opportunity to monetize a visitor’s time spent on your site. How nice it is of Google to gives us that opportunity.

Who do you choose?

Ah, now that’s the big question. Most people head straight for Overture or Yahoo, but there are other fish in the sea worth considering. In fact, some of these fish make their living almost solely by serving replacement ads for PSAs. Run this search(http://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official_s&hl=en&q=google+psa+alternatives&btnG=Google+Search)on Google and you’ll have plenty of options to choose from.

Why bother?

Sometimes Google doesn’t have any ads in its inventory to match your site’s keywords. Sometimes Google gets confused and can’t figure out which ads to deliver, so it grabs a PSA ad.

Google also has a not-so-readily-available list of what it calls “stop words”. When the Google AdSense spiders detect these words on your page they automatically trigger PSAs. Some of the more commonly known words include severe profanity (think: George Carlin’s 7 Words You Can’t Say on T.V), as well as other words which may very be quite legitimate for your site such as pharmaceutical, drugs, death, dying, abortion, and the list goes on and on. At least we THINK that it goes on and on but no one really knows for sure outside of a trusted few Google staffers.

But no matter what the reason, you don’t want non-revenue ads running on your site. There’s no excuse when Google makes it so easy to keep the revenue flowing.

Adf.ly: Make Money with Intermission and Framed Ads

If you have already searched intermission ads on Google you would have probably seen a lot of varying opinions about whether intermission ads are good or bad. Some people use framed ads to be less intrusive, but the problem is intermission ads pay LOADS more.

If you haven't already got an Adf.ly account, you should Sign Up and check it out to see exactly what this page is talking about. Its absolutely Free to Join!

I have used intermission ads and Framed ads one of my sites for quite some time now, using various different methods of implementing them. This article is to give you a little info about using Adf.ly links and how to use Interstitial/Intermission and Framed ads...

Basic Paid Intermission link with Adf.ly Shrinker

1. To change a link into a paid Intermission (or Interstitial) link log into your account and post your link into the Adf.ly Shrinker at the top of the page.

2.Click more options to change ad type to Interstitial and give your link a custom name. Then shrink it.

3. Post your new link into blog post or webpage or email or Twitter feed or on Facebook....etc

You can check the progress of your newly created links on the homepage once you log in.

Multiple/Bulk basic Links with Adf.ly Mass Shrinker

1. Go to Tools from the top menu, then enter up to 20 urls. Choose your preferred ad type and hit Mass Shrink

2. Post your new links into blog post or web page or email or Twitter feed or on Facebook....etc

Full page Script to automatically change all or selected site links

1.Go to tools, then Full page script. Select which code suits your needs and copy to a text file to edit.

2.Paste script into head, or body section of your sites template. The links will be automatically redirected.

Tips:

Adf.ly also have a site entry script, if you use this make sure you change the amount of times and the page turns the ad shows on to a reasonable amount.

I use the full page Interstitial/Intermission script on a download site, it only redirects on urls I specify in the script, which makes managing the links very simple. This also means that if there was ever a prob with Adfly, you would only have to remove it to fix any problems, rather than replace every link you created.

Ive also tried using framed ads, they are less intrusive but pay much less, so I use Intermissions (on certain links). Most users don't seem to mind to much, as long as its not overdone and your content has some value.

Monetising inbound traffic with Adf.ly

Monetising inbound traffic can be a great way of generating extra revenue from your site. Lots of sites get a decent amount of traffic but the time these visitors spend on a page isn't enough to create a good income from programs like Adsense that rely mainly on ad clicks.

What if you could monetise every visit to your site?

Well, you can with Adf.ly's Site Entry script. This is a simple and easy to use script  that automatically displays an ad to visitors as they enter your site.

Think about it, you get 1000 views a day but you only get 1, $0.10 click on Adsense. Why not monetise all of those views and earn up to $4 per thousand impressions?

Sounds great right? And it is, especially because its FREE to Sign Up. But there are still things to think about before adding the script.

There are 2 main ad types to choose from, Interstitial and Framed Banner. Interstitial ads are very intrusive as users are redirected to an ad page which they have to skip to be directed to the main home page of your site, whereas the framed banner ads appear above your content allowing users to view your page directly without major interruption. You can customise the script by setting a frequency cap, a time delay before showing ads and a time delay between ads showing.

Although Framed banners seem like the way to go, Interstitial ads pay much much more. You would have to get 2 - 3 times more ad views on framed banners to achieve the same amount of revenue.

Start monetising your inbound traffic by signing up here.

Again, very similar to Google AdSense but offers more features such as pop up ads and monthly conversion bonuses. Ad loading times can be a little slow at times, but if you have a well optimised site it shouldn't be a problem.

3. Clicksor

Clicksor is a good alternative, they have many features to help increase earnings. But, they do let some bad ads slide through from time to time. Also, you need a well trafficked site to make a good income from them. If you get a lot of traffic clicksor might be one for you, if you have a smaller site Bidvertiser might be a better choice.

Chitika, by default, uses manual targeting of products to your pages. For each page, you can enter a keyword, or series of keywords, that match the products you would like to promote, and Chitika will show the best matches. Since the ads are manually targeted by default, the program is in compliance with Google's Terms & Conditions for AdSense, and makes an excellent compliment to that program. Chitika does offer an contextual matching option if you are not running AdSense and prefer it. You will need to contact them after joining the program to enable this however.

What is CPM, CPA, CPC and CTR? Which one should I use for my ad campaign?

What is CPM, CPA and CTR?What Does CPM Mean?

CPM means Cost Per Thousand. (M is the Roman numeral for thousand - and so Cost Per Thousand).
It is the amount you will pay the ad-network or website publisher to show your ad and have it viewed 1 thousand times on their website or network.

Whether your ad is shown only once to each visitor (Unique Impressions) or any page impression - is something that you will have to work out with the ad-network or the website. CPM rates were once (pre yr 2000 bubble-burst era) as much as $75, but have now dropped to as little as $1 CPM.

What Does CPC Mean?

CPC means Cost Per Click. This is how much you would pay the ad-network or website every time a visitor clicks on your banner. CPC rates can be as high as $3 per click or as little as 5 cents per click. It depends on your product and your market - amongst other factors, the more competition there is - the higher you will probably end up paying as you compete with competitors.

What Does CPA Mean?

CPA means Cost Per Action. An Action could be any of the following - A visitor clicking on your banner coming to your site and filling up a simple enquiry form (CPR - Cost Per Registration) , or if the visitor makes a purchase (CPS - Cost Per sale). It may Even be a flat fee or a percentage commission of each sale made. Affiliate-Networks like commissionjunction , linkshare and clickbank have great software systems to help track all this and provide statistical information to online merchants and publishers on their network of sites.

What Does CTR Mean?

CTR is Click Through Rate. The percentage rate of people who click on your ad banner. If your banner ad is seen by 100 people and clicked by only 1 person - then it's CTR is 1% or .01

Similarly, if your ad banner is seen 100,000 times and in the same time period it is clicked 2000 times - then your banner CTR is 2% or .02 .

This is how we calculate CTR ...

(Number of Clicks / Number of impressions) x 100

Example, for above case it would be -

(2000 / 100,000) x 100 = .02

CPM, CPC or CPA ... what should I use for my ad campaign?

Your choice will depend on various factors. Sometimes companies such as Pepsi, would just like to enforce their brand and be seen across many websites, without any need for the user to click on their banners. This is a brand hammering strategy, and a CPM deal would be preferred.

Apart from the above mass branding effort, the decision to go for a CPC, CPM or CPA ad becomes a calculated decision when you have a product that you want to sell on your website.

Would you pay the publisher for only visitors he sends you, or would you pay him for every thousand ads he displays for you? Or, would you pay him a commission on sales from visitors he sends you?

This can be very tricky. You may need to read a bit more on the subject before you make a decision. But trying a few different methods wont hurt. I hope this helps you on your way.

How to Choose a Good Ad Network that suits your needs

Choosing a good Ad Network
This is a basic check list for any publisher to find an ad network that is suitable and profitable for your website.

Niche vs. Generic

If your blog and website has a strong focus in a particular field and your visitors generally share the same interests, then a Vertical ad network is what you should look for. This type of ad network serves a signature niche and targets a relevant and specific demographic, connecting advertisers and publishers that share the same interests or belong to the same industry. This is a very effective platform to reach the right target audience. Some examples include The Deck, Federated Media.

Horizontal ad network is the kind of network that dwells in all categories. Its inventory is extensive and generic. Horizontals offer a massive reach for advertisers and publishers. Some examples include ValueClick, AOL Advertising.

Payment and Rates

One important factor when joining an ad network is to know how you will be paid. How effective are they selling your ad space, at what rate, and how much of that will actually reach you?

These are the 3 most common ways your ad displays will be compensated:

1. CPM

'Cost per Thousand Impressions' advertising is a network that rewards publishers for every 1000 impressions, or ad views. This is a great choice for websites and blogs with high traffic since the large number of visitors equals more revenue. This also allows you to predict your advertising revenue monthly based on your website traffic.

The downside of CPM networks is that they can be difficult to join with minimum impression requirement, or they offer CPMs that are too low to turn into a significant source of advertising revenue. For publishers, CPM is one of the best ways to monetize because the greater your site traffic is, the more revenue you can earn. Some CPM networks include CasaleMedia, TribalFusion, ValueClick.

2. CPA

'Cost per Action (Acquisition)' programs reward publishers only when visitors purchase the product or service from the advertiser after visiting your website. These advertisements award high payouts. However, your earnings depend entirely on the visitors' purchase and the effectiveness of the ad copy. If they do not buy any product, you do not earn any revenue.

Typically, CPA is more effective if the website has high traffic and a particular focus that compliments with the products being advertised. For example, if your site is about movie reviews, a ticket-seller program will perform a lot better than an art-and-craft website.

If the theme of your website does not compliment the ads, it will be hard to earn from the CPA model. Some networks include CommissionJunction, LinkShare.

3. CPC

'Cost per Click' advertisement is easier to monetize than the CPA model since it rewards publishers for each click. The upside is that CPC has the potential to turn small levels of traffic into revenue, and these ad blocks are easy to set up.

The downside is that revenue can be inconsistent since it depends on the customers' choice and interest to click. Ad placement location, niche, and visual appeal are some of the factors that can enhance the effectiveness of CPC ads. Examples include Google AdSense, Yahoo for Publisher.

Business model of ad network

All these CPC, CPA, CPM rates do not mean you earn 100% of the money. Ad networks get a significant commission from your earnings and have control over your paid inventory. If the network can only accommodate 50% of your total inventory, you would need to fill 50% of it with something else or risk losing money to the default public-service ads served by the network.

The effective CPM is a good way to measure your actual earning. For example: Your ad network is selling £10 CPMs and you have 10,000 page views, each page has one ad. Your potential revenue is £100. Let's assume that they are selling half of the inventory on your site, meaning 5,000 of your pages have ads and the rest do not.

That means maximum revenue is £50. Assuming there's a 5% (£22.5) admin fee for the ad network, total revenue is down to £47.5. If the revenue split is 50/50, your ad network keeps £23.75 and you get £23.75. Thus, your net effective CPM is £2.37, or £2.37 for every 1000 impressions.

Reliability and Credibility

Ad network commissions can be significant, that is why it is important that you select one carefully. As with all business, you only want to partner with credible companies.

You should take into consideration the company history by asking questions such as how long they have been in the business, how often they pay, or if they have a history of withholding payment. More research at the beginning will save you time and effort in the long run.

Control over your ads

You only want ads that can generate revenue and attract visitors. If you have a specific demographic that will not tolerate certain images and topics, then you should take into consider how much control you have over the ads. Is it possible to turn off undesirable ads such as gambling services, adult services, or ads from your competitors?

Integration with your ad server

After you have narrowed down the number of prospective ad networks, you should also consider their compatibility with your ad server. Some ad servers will not accept third-party networks or limit the number or type of ad networks to serve.

Making Money With Twitter Followers and Sponsored Ads

Make money with Twitter
Can you make money with Twitter in your spare time?

Yes, you can! Use minutes of the day that are usually wasted and make them precious minutes. Twitter bloggers have built huge followings that read every tweet which lands in their Twitter in-box. Internet companies have build platforms to match Twitter bloggers with brick and mortar companies which are in need of buyers.

They realise more and more the potential to bring Twitter bloggers and companies selling physical products together. Companies offering their products are desperately looking for prospects in social media. Here Twitter bloggers can offer their potential with their followers. Twitter bloggers are offered the potential to make a dollar or two on Twitter, some even make really good money.

New Internet platforms connect bloggers with companies that are willing to compensate them for tweeting on their site. Twitter users can sign up, be evaluated and finally get paid for putting sponsored tweets on their site. The company pays them for this privilege. Big nationwide outlets for example are paying one dollar for each click on specific Twitter sites.

Companies which use this service are among all classes, small- to medium-sized business and also some of the nationwide 500 biggest companies. For marketers it is a wonderful business because they have access to the entire database of Twitter users and can select and pay the ones which are suitable to advertise their products. There is a payment schedule which is based on the experience of the tweeter user and the number of clicks followers place on their page.

However, for users which pocket spare change using sponsored Twitter messages it is a lot of fun. On the other hand the invasion of marketers into the sphere of Twitter could be considered littering. Filling your in-box with worthless product proposals will not be welcomed by everyone on Twitter. There are Twitter users which have concentrated on collecting a strong database of Twitter followers which they can supply with product tweets and cash in on them.

The danger for bloggers distributing sponsored tweets is that annoyed followers might switch to un-follow. If Twitter gets commercialized they might lose their popularity and the genuine conversation. Everyone has to think about it. If somebody on Twitter speaks highly about a product, his followers have the right to know if it is genuine or a sponsored ad. There are bloggers that insist that each sponsored ad has to carry some kind of disclosure.

For companies sponsoring ads on Twitter there is also danger. Will the message carry hope or desperation? Branding experts recommend that companies move slowly into the blogging area of Twitter. Today however, much more valuable is still advertising by word of mouth.

For tweeters it can also be dangerous. If they stuff their feeds with unwanted ads, they might lose their followers. Even friends can be distracted and quit their following, particularly if they followed a sponsored message and did not know that it was not only a friendly hint. Some bloggers however welcome the trend because they can make a little payback and earn some money for their work they have put into building up their blogging followers.

Google Adsense and the Potential for High Profits

Chances are, you've heard of Google; the enormously popular search engine that everyone is using these days. But did you know that there's a way Google can help you make money? It's true; and the best part is you won't have to do very much to make it work. That's the beauty of Adsense.

Google Adsense works on the principle of passive income. In other words, you will generate income with a minimal amount of active participation on your part. Think of it this way: Instead of having to do all of the cooking and cleaning yourself, imagine if you had a robot that could do it all for you, while you sat back and watched. Adsense works in a similar way, except instead of a cleaner house you get a fatter bank account. Sounds pretty nice, doesn't it? We will show you how to make passive income work for you.

The world's richest people all understand the concept of passive income. That's how they can jet-set off to fancy parties and exotic locales while their businesses continue to flourish. They have more than just crackerjack staffs and winning ideas. They have passive income on the payroll.

Once you've invested the small amount of time to learn about Adsense and set it up, all that is left for you to do is to sit back and watch as your bank account – or PayPal balance increases.

What is Adsense, anyway?

In a nutshell, it's a fast and easy way for a website owner to make money through the placement of Google ads on their site. Adsense takes the guesswork out of ad placement, by choosing ads that relate very closely to the content on your site. You no longer have to search for relevant ads yourself; Google Adsense does the searching for you.

Without Adsense, you would have to spend countless hours searching for different ads for each of the pages on your site. All that searching could seriously eat into your golf time! With Adsense, you will be able to concentrate on providing your site's visitors with high-quality content.

The program rewards site owners for providing web surfers with interesting content. You will generate an income stream from your website or blog just by participating in the program. Some site owners have earned monthly incomes in the thousands of dollars! Even if your initial incomes are small, Adsense has the potential to earn your site a very comfortable second income stream. You'll even earn while you sleep! And if you own more than one site, the earning potential is just that much greater!

The way it works is this:

Google Adsense compensates the affiliate on a pay-per-click basis. Each time an ad is clicked, the advertiser pays Google a certain amount. After they have deducted their amount, Google will forward you the rest, usually on a monthly schedule.

Do you want to earn money while you travel the world, play with your kids or simply take time out for yourself? That can be a reality with Adsense. With a simple set up and some tried-and-true strategies for taking full advantage of the program, you will soon see the dollars rolling in. So relax, put your feet up, and let Adsense work for you.
